I think he was given like green eyes in the anime. I can't remember.. but in the manga, Obata used different colors for his eyes all the time. I think it just depends on the reflection of the clothes he is wearing or something. Either way, i hate it when they give characters weird eye colors, since it's impossible for asians to have anything but black, gray or brown eyes.
