Stupid Japanese Proficiency Exams

Sun Oct 14, 2007, 11:19 AM
Finally new journal. It’s been 2 years since my last journal entry. My laziness got the better of me.

My life now revolves around job search and studying for the Japanese Proficiency Exam, which I unwittingly applied for and now deeply regret. Took a look at the vocab list for the level one test today at Joe’s Japanese Proficiency Exam Page (www.thbz.org/kanjimots/jlpt-vo…) and realized that my Japanese teacher must have been drunk on madness to think that me taking this exam is a good idea. Now. I must memorize like 50 vocabs a day for the next 50 days to get through the list.

I tried out for the level two test last December, and it wasn’t that bad…except that this dude sitting beside me finished a good half hour before finishing time, and I wanted to pull my hair out with all the pressure of the clock ticking and the fact that I can’t go to the washroom for fear of being shot by the examiner with the evil eyes.

Anyway. I must start my job hunt now in between rewatching old Gilmore Girl episodes and thinking to myself why Jess(milo) is so pretty.

My grandma passed away today~T__T

Thu Nov 24, 2005, 5:09 PM
My grandma passed away today... I knew that she has been ill for many years and that she probably didn't have much time left, but when it does happen, I was still quite shakened up. My mother visted her 2 days ago, and she was still alive and well...but now she's suddenly gone... We didn't get along very well, but I was still sad because my grandpa was sad.

My father obviously didn't like her very much. When I told him the news today, the first thing he said was "So, did you guys buy sushi?".

Anyway, on a brighter note, I got a new cellphone recently and has been taking random photos like mad.
The christmas decorations downtown are so pretty.:heart::heart:

And~~! here's a pic of my son.. er I mean my doll. Made him new clothes and neglected my homework in the process. Fairly sure the teacher hates my guts... but life still goes on.
(the one on the right^^)

Clamp Interview on TV ^_^~~!!!!

Sat Aug 20, 2005, 11:55 PM
I watched a Clamp interview a few days ago on this Japanese Channel in Canada.

I think it was the first time Clamp agreed to do a public interview on TV. The TV crew went to their studio in Tokyo to shoot some footage. It was SUCH a beautiful studio!!! I always had the image of 4 desks pushed up together in one room with scrap paper and crap piled up high, but NO~~~~ it had a mini bar and everything!!! *_* They have a huge shelf with manga and information/reference books that they use for their mangas. Their actual work place is 4 adjoining rooms, each with a computer and light table and lots of storage space. Everything is designed in white so it looks very clean and pretty.:floating: Considering all this is located in Tokyo, the studio must have cost a fortune~~~>_< But then again, they sold more than 88 million copies of their manga, so money obviously isn't an issue.

Of course they didn't start off that way. They mentioned that in the beginning, they rented this tiny apartment as their studio. When they stayed there at night, one of them slept in the closet and one slept in the space under her table.

I think one interesting thing that was brought up in the interview is that the storywriter NEVER tells the main artist(Mokona Apapa) the story until the last minute. The storywriter(can't remember her name) says that its becuz if she did, the future events of the manga might show in Mokona's art; and therefore, the story will be less effective. I don't agree with this cuz most mangaka's write their own stories anyway;  whether or not they know the whole story beforehand is irrelevant to the overall effectiveness of the plot. The storywriter probably wants her storylines to be unpredictable, and she has succeeded since Clamp stories really CAN be very unpredictable. But whether or not that's a good thing is arguable. Sometimes I feel that the groundbreaking plot twists in Clamp mangas comes too suddenly. I don't think it's a bad thing to hint at the future events here and there in the course of a story(as long as the story doesn't become predictable). The readers may not understand these hints at first, but they all come together in the end.

But anyway, I've never been a huge fan of Clamp's stories...I've kept reading their mangas to drool over their kick ass artworks that always seems to be setting new standards in the industry~~:heart::floating: *_*

Do anyone know if the Shounen Jump artists ever showed their studios??? I'd LOVE to see photos( especially especially ESPECIALLy Obata Takeshi.. he's my idol:heart::floating:) Or!!!  Minekura Kazuya sensei*_*!!!!!!!!

Anyway ..... I was wondering if there is any good manga lately??? Haven't been reading anything except deathnote and FMA. Is D. Gray-man any good? I haven't really read the new shounen jump mangas.

Please visit her DA Page!!!!!

Wed Aug 3, 2005, 10:12 PM
Hi~~^_^

I finally got my cousin to sign up to DA~~ :iconannabell-y: She is the one who taught me how to draw. Being the strict woman that she is, she once forbid me to read ANY manga for a whole summer just so that I can focus on those damn still life drawings0___0...very painful experience...................But, I would never have gotten into Art College if it weren't for her.

She just started posting her pictures a few days ago(despite signing up for over a year). She is very new and very nervous. I would really really really appreciate it if you guys can..maybe stop by her page and give her some encouragements^___^ :floating:

She is currently an animation student at the Art Institute of Boston. One of the best and most picky artists ever.

One thing that I don't like about my art college is that we have to write essays after essays after essays. This week, I need to write about Manga and Anime Art. But my teacher says that she doesn't want the essay to be only about my own opinion. So I was hoping to get some opinions from the artists at DA^_^.
if you know any online articles, or manga forum links, or mangaka interviews that deal with these questions, please give me the link>_<

1) What makes a good manga? What is the difference between a good story and a great story?
2) What are some important things you keep in mind when you're drawing?
3) Why do you think many teachers or traditional artists dislike anime art?

I also need to do a presentation on Video Games. GAHH*_*

1) What makes a good video game? How important is Gameplay vs the story? How important is it for the players to be able to control the narrative(ex. is it important to have muliple endings etc?)

thank u~~~Sorry to bother u guys like this>_<

I've been very sick lately>_<... I can't sleep well at night cuz of my cold. So I'm totally exhausted right now. *sighs*

But I managed to finish another doll with Fimo clay. I spent a lot longer on this doll than the previous one I made. To keep myself entertained while poking at the clay, I decided to watch old movies. I was able to finish 5 movies before I finished the doll:
Shawshank Redemption (i luv this movie) :floating:
Forest Gump:heart::heart::heart:
Gladiator
A Beautiful Mind
Erin Brockovich.

lol. Here are some pics. The body is not made by me. I just put the head onto my Isao's body:heart::floating: He doesn't have any pants on cuz I didn't finish restringing the body.

I made the necklace and the shirt... I suck SO much at sewing...

This is him with another wig. Probably the most expensive wig i bought... *_*.

I will try some different colored wigs on him later.. but I think black hair suits him best. I'm still very annoyed at Fimo clay because it's too difficult to smooth. I spend SUCH  a long time sanding his face, but it's still not very smoothT___T.. I bought this new clay from ebay called Prosculpt. I haven't tried it out yet, but I heard the clay is especially made for sculpting dolls. I hope it works better than Fimo.

I haven't named him yet... cuz I suck at naming.

I'm sorta in a dilemma right now...... It's about time for me to register for next year's Animation courses, but I don't know what to choose. There is a subject that I really want to take(commercial animation), but the ONLY teacher who is going to teach this is the same teacher who gave me a really bad mark out of nowhere because he was pissed at me. T___T

My mom told me that it'll be good to take it anyway, because the most important thing would be that I'm learning something new. But the teacher already has a bad impression of me, and if he gives me a bad mark again, I'll get very very discouraged .... *_* GAHH~~~~~~~~~~~ It sux that our school has so little 3D animation teachers.... dammit!!!!!!!!!

help on photography ideas
I need to take some photo that represents a "dream".... but I don't know what would be better subject matter? I've been taking random pictures of dolls and half-constructed houses, but I don't know if it'll work.....
I'm really stuck on this assignment.... can anyone give me some ideas? What what kinda stuff would look like a dream? candles? water? *_* GAHHHHHHHH~~~ SO frustrated....

I bought an Isao Nanjou from Yahoo Auctions: www.superdollfie.net/sd/gentei… >____<!!!!!!! I checked the EMS tracking page religiously for days to see when he's going to be delivered.:After waiting weeks, the package is FINALLY here~~!! ^___^
heart::heart::floating: I read that most people in the US gets their doll delivered to their house, so I was expecting that. But...no~~Not in Canada! They sent me a notice to go to the post office to pick him up because if I don't pay 140 bucks for him(taxes/custom duty), they won't give the package to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >____<
Canadian customs are insanely expensive!!!! The ppl at customs opened my package for inspection and charged me an extra 8 bucks for the procedure....it's like they're invading my privacy, and then making me pay for it. the lack of logic in the system....*sighs*

The package was huge... and kinda heavy too.

I was actually very very nervous when I was opening the package because I never seen a dollfie before in real life, so I don't know if I'll be disappointed or not.

He turns out to be the prettiest thing ever :floating:

His clothes took more than half an hour to put on. >_<

I think I'll buy my next dollfie at around Christmas time... Or else my mom will get mad at me for spending so much money at once.
I'm thinking of getting a girl dollfie.
I need to decide between a Liz(www.volks.co.jp/en/superdollfi…) or a Tachibana Jun(www.volks.co.jp/en/superdollfi…). Any suggestions ^_^?

0____0!!!!!!! The dollfie that I bought from Japan should be arriving anyday now:heart::heart::heart: I am SO excited that I've been jumping to the phone everytime it rings hoping that it'll be the delivery man.:heart::heart:^_^

I finally started making the body for my handmade dollfie. It's really hard to get the joints right.
No arms yet. But I'm getting there>_<. takes so long.

I also made some dollfie sized food:heart::orange:

My summer school got off to a bad start.
I decided to take a beginners photo class in my school. But, it turns out that almost every student in the class already have previous photography experience, while I don't even know how to put film into my camera. I feel so embarassed....*_*
Just out of curiosity, do photo teachers tend to be partial to manual cameras? My teacher says that using digital camera's is like "going to the dark side" or something like that.

Anyway, after I got out of class, I realized that my car has been towed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAMMIT!!! That's 85 bucks down the drain!!!!!!It sucks that my school is on Granville Island; it's the second most visted tourist attraction in Vancouver(the first being the Vancouver Airport). We've get a sh!tload of tourists all year round, and they hog all the parking spaces!!!!!!!!!!! Doesn't it suck when teachers mark you based on how much they like you instead of what your work is actually worth? T___T

Yesterday, I was crying so badly when I saw that I got an almost failing mark in one of my courses. It was SO surprising because I got an A in the first part of that course last semester(it's a 2 part course). The teacher didn't even tell me why I was getting this mark and he wouldn't return my emails either. The mark REALLY came out of no where, because when I showed him my projects, he's ALWAYS like "that's cool!" or "wow, how did you do that?". So I thought I was doing pretty well, NOT ALMOST FAILING.

Now, I can't help thinking that he gave me a bad mark out of spite, because he was annoyed at me and my friend during the last few weeks of school(he was pissed when we told him that we did our final project in Flash etc.). My friend got the same mark as me(though his work is awesome~~~~ :iconjeffsimpsonkh:)

ANd, i can't do anything about it because, ya know, the school usually think the teachers are always right.

But I'm also utterly discouraged. I don't even want to do animation again anymore................. I hope I'll get over it soon. T_T

photography question
I decided to take a photography course at my school cuz a lot of ppl said it's a good idea. I was wondering what type/brand of cameras are better to buy? I'm thinking of buy one for about 400~700 Canadian Dollars.

I am probably the WORST person at using my time wisely. Despite the fact that I have 4 projects due in a week, i decide to spend time making a doll*_*...Seriously.......i think I need to start reading books on time management........T____T

Anyway, this is my first try at making a ball joint doll with~~~~^_^
I'm still planning on buying a dollfie from Japan. But I don't think I can afford more than 1 or *maybe* 2. So I might as well try to make some myself.

I know it doesn't look very good. But I'll try to make more during the summer.. and hopefully, I'll improve. ^____^

I'm thinking of naming him Ryuu, from Ryuuzaki( L from deathnote). but that may change. I made him with Fimo Clay, so the Skin isn't that good...I was wondering if there are better kinds of clay to use for dolls? I want to buy eyes for him, but I don't know what size would fit. I would be pretty pissed to waste 40 bucks on eyes that doesn't fit him. I'm only 5 percent done with his body, so i'll only show the head*_*

(I made the black eyes... looks kinda freaky. I bought the wig off Yahoo Auctions.)

(This is him in a more natural blonde wig^_^. The eyes here are supposed to be grey, but they look kinda blue. I made them with sculptey, acrylics and triart gloss)

(I took this pic at night. Kinda yellow-ish. But the red eyes are also kinda freaky.)

I am a complete newbie at photography. ANd I really want to learn, so I was wondering if there are any web sites or maybe books that you would recommend?

Hentai Anime.................

Fri Mar 25, 2005, 12:27 AM
Today during animation history class, the teacher started to each us about japanese anime. And, the FIRST damn film he decided to show us is this hentai anime flick.

This is the first time I've watched a hentai anime, so I didn't exactly know what to expect(other than lots of anime porn). The whole thing did not only have sex but it also involved *gasp* aliens, monsters, police force, and a pathetic pathetic attempt at plot. It was SO bad that i lost count of how many times the whole class burst out into laughter.....*_* There are these scenes where the characters just stand there and talk for minutes, throwing a sh!tload of plot at you about the black world and a peace treaty etc. etc. And all the sex scenes involves monsters or monsters in human disguise... I hope not all hentai anime are like ............... Totally not sexy! just gross.,.....O_O

When i got back from school, my mom, my brother and dad were actually betting on whether or not I would skip class today. My brother and my dad were like "has she ever stayed before?!!".......................Seriously people! Have some faith in me!!!!!! LOL.

Oh...one more thing~~~~ Can you guys give me your opinions on this dollfie? dolls.oheya.to/gallery/img07/s… I'm seriously considering to buy him, cuz he has SUCH a pleasant face... But my mom and my brother has declared that he's the gayest doll they have ever seen.....
or...is this one better? dolls.oheya.to/closet/img12/ka…

sorry for bugging u guys....*_*

Recently, I've been obsessing over these eerily beautiful, but completely overpriced Japanese dolls.

They're pretty big dolls(60cm)~~! And you can customize EVERYTHING from their makeup, eye ball colours, wigs and even their face shape.... AND! You can also make clothing for them that can sell for a sh!tload of money.
But the dolls themselves can range anywhere from 700~1500 dollars...

All my friends advises me against buying these dolls. And my rational side KNOWS that I can spend 1000 dollars on better things, but there's also that feeling of, u know...wanting something SO badly that it hurts to think about it.
I bet if someone were to tell me a month ago that I would want to spend a 1000 bucks on a doll, I would have laughed my ass off......

:heart::heart: gokuaku.egoism.jp/utasd/pict9.… (HE IS MY FAVORITE!!!!!! Totally love at first sight when I saw him~~~~:heart::heart:) He belongs to gokuaku.egoism.jp/utasd/index.….) His head mold is an F28, but I heard that his model is discontinued cuz they replaced him with an F16)

F16= dolls.oheya.to/auction/f1602/f… He's also pretty, but not as special as the F28....

dolls.oheya.to/closet/img12/rt… (i luv him too~~~!!*_*)

The only possible way for me to buy him is through yahoo auctions. BUT~!!!!! MOST of the sellers are as stubborn as hell about shipping internationally. I think about 80% of the dollfie sellers will refuse your offer(where as the doujinshi sellers have an 80% chance of agreeing to ship internationally). EVEN when I already told them that I can pay with the method of payment that they requested, I'm willing to pay extra shipping charge for EMS, and I can read and write Japanese so there will be no problem in communication. SO! why the hell not??!!!!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh~~~~!!!! My classes are killing me!!!! I spent all my time now on either my school work or part time job. I don't have time for anything else...............Seriously, I don't know how much longer I can take thisT______T~~~~!

I'm having trouble with my sound homework. I've never been a sound/music person, so it's taking me a long time to do this assignment. I need to come up with a long list of sounds (ex. 10 sounds that will be a part of our soundscape)...
Since there are lots of creative people on Deviant Art, I was wondering if you guys can help me come up with a few sounds.. In return, I will randomly pick a few people who has helped me), and I will draw gift art/requests for them........^_^

1) list a sound that have either disappeared or are disappearing from our soundscape(eg. type writers replaced by keyboards, or horses trotting replaced by cars) And please give a short history about this sound(eg. when did it disappear, and why did it disappear)

2) list a sound that has entered our sound scape within the past 2 years

3) predict a sound that will be part of our soundscape in the future(eg. laser beams/ hover crafts)

4) list a sound that contradicts the visual source(eg. a very small person with a very loud voice)

5) list a sound that turns into something else or take a new meaning(starts to sound like something else). For example: voices you hear from outside while taking a shower

6) list a sound that you hear before you see it

thank you~~~

*EDIT:
I downloaded this program called Spy Catcher, but after I used it, my whole windows screwed up even worse. It wouldn't even load into the main windows screen(with the icons). So, I reformatted my computer... But for some reason, I got the same Spyware/Virus AGAIN!!!!!!!! And I didn't even download anything(except real player/quicktime etc.)  I don't know how the thing got into my computer..........

The wall paper of my computer turned like this:
www.eciad.ca/~rwang/journal/sp…
Is this familiar to anyone?
My brother attempted to fix this for me. He managed to get rid of the black screen. But now, I can't have any wallpaper...there is this white screen. Whenever I click on the properties of the white screen, it says, "file:// C: WINDOWSWebdesktop. html"......

Is there some way to fix this????

---
My computer has contracted a virus or some sorta spy ware thing, and a lot of things are screwed up now. My whole wallpaper is replaced by another screen(I can't get rid of it), and the whole Window XP layout looks like Window 98....
Can I download some program to fix spy ware problems???? It's really pissing me off.

I decided not to go on the student exchange program... I would rather save the money to get a Masters in Animation after I graduate, or maybe study in Japan. I have to wait for another time to visit New York...*sighs*

I read the new Deathnote Chapter... and it hurts so much..
*HUGE Spoiler*

L(Ryuuzaki) DIES!!! DAMMIT!!!! How can they kill of the most popular character?????  I was SOOOO upset after I read the chapter... SO SO UPSET!!!!! Seriously, didn't Hikago's popularity wane after Sai disappeared? You'd think the author would have learned a lesson.

(POOR L...falling off his chair like that!!!!!!...anyway, scan taken from www.jojohot.com)

(i like this moment...Raito stopping the fall:heart::heart::heart:)

I'm kinda disappointed in the manner of L's death. I kinda had a hunch that he was going to die sooner or later, but i was hoping that Raito would have won this battle in a more gallant way(instead of blackmailing Remu into killing the guy).
I'm totally rooting for a revival scene, but I wonder how the author can pull it off without making it seem cheesy....

recent things ....

Mon Jan 24, 2005, 12:09 AM
I haven't posted in my journals for a while*_*... I've been under a lot of stress lately. After hearing all these stories of animators who can't find jobs and end up going back to school to get other trainings, I really think that it will happen to me too....  There are only 2 and a half years till my graduation~~~ T__T

I want to join the exchange student program and study in New York or Florida next year. I haven't exactly decided where yet... Since I will be going for the Fall semester, my friends said that Florida will be a better choice because the weather in New York is horrible during winter. I haven't been to either places so i don't know which one is better.....

I've been typing up my original stories(mainly working on Tainted Red) lately. I've been working on Tainted Red ever since I was in Grade 8(or more accurately, after I first played FFVII). I have revised my script SOOO many times that the Tainted Red now is almost completely different from my original idea. I have changed the opening sequence of the story over 6 times already(since the first impression is very important). I'm sorta scared to actually start drawing the manga, because I'm afraid that I would change my mind again.

sorry for ranting... *_*

Tue Jan 4, 2005, 11:57 PM
I am having a really bad artist block right now. Whenever I try to draw something, it ends up in the trash... been like this for almost 1 month ~ O_O

What do people usually do when they get artist blocks?

Just wondering.. are there any good photography books or art magazines to look at? I am especially interested in photography books...especially those featuring people.

I started replaying Suikoden 2 again.... It's been like 5 years since I first beat the game, and I still think it's one of the best rpg's ever made. It's such a shame that so many gamers doesn't even know about this game...

Finally Back! ^_^

Wed Dec 29, 2004, 1:06 AM
We came back a little bit early from our trip to Las Vegas. I am so terribly tired right now, but I will reply to notes and comment on deviations as soon as humanly possible. *_*
(a photo taken indoors in the Venetian hotel. the sky is fake)
Las Vegas was really amazing. The hotels were sooooooooo beautiful. Sometimes when I am in the hotel, I spend more time looking at the architecture than the items in the stores. I am definitely going back there again once I earn enough money to buy those over-priced, but very pretty, clothes.

Almost everything is very expensive there, except for the buffets. I wanted to go on internet, but the internet service at my hotel costs 50 cents a minute!!!!!!!

The last day of the vacation was horrible. I cried my eyes out because I left something very important to me in the hotel room, and there is no way for me to get it back. T_T

A lot of bad news awaits me once I got back. The earthquake in Asia was so sad. My brother said that his friend's brother died ...T__T

I was also utterly shocked to find that suprnova will be down FOREVER!!!! 0___0 I'm not sure if it's because of legal issues or money problems, but now I have no where to download movies anymore T___T~~!!! Is there any other good torrent sites to download stuff(movies/anime/computer applications etc)?

Anyway, I hope you guys have a great Christmas^_^. Fill me in on what I missed when I get back, k?

It sux that I hafta leave for Christmas(my mom is forcing me to go with them). I originally planned to send letters with gift art or small presents to random people on Deviant Art as a thank u gifts for visiting my page. But I guess I'll hafta wait until next Christmas. T_T
